Illawarra Christian Education is a non-denominational, non-profit organisation dedicated to providing families in the Illawarra with access to high-quality Christian education. Our educational approach encourages parents to participate actively in their children's schooling through the Illawarra Association for Christian Parent-Controlled Education.
Founded on strong evangelical Christian principles, our schools, Illawarra Christian School and Calderwood Christian School, strive to unite parents and teachers in guiding students with exemplary education that reflects a biblical worldview. Since opening our first school over 40 years ago, we have grown to serve more than 1000 students across our institutions.
Position Overview
The Human Resources Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the Business Manager and School Principals by implementing effective staffing processes and fostering a positive organisational culture. This full-time role encompasses a variety of tasks including recruitment, onboarding, staff development, and policy management, contributing to a supportive and compliant work environment. The role is based at the Illawarra Christian Education Business Centre, which is located on the grounds of Illawarra Christian School, and may require occasional travel to Calderwood Christian School.
Additionally, the HR Specialist will actively participate in the spiritual life of the school, engaging in devotions and professional development that align with our mission of delivering Christian education.
Key Responsibilities
- Arrange position descriptions and manage job advertisements for new roles.
- Liaise with job applicants throughout the recruitment process.
- Oversee the interview process and communicate with successful and unsuccessful candidates.
- Draft and manage employment contracts and maintain accurate employee files.
- Coordinate induction and onboarding for new staff members.
- Facilitate staff development sessions during professional development weeks.
- Assist with workplace health and safety (WHS) reporting and manage return to work schedules.
- Continuously improve HR processes in collaboration with people managers.
- Consult with HR consultants and legal advisors on industrial matters.
- Manage all staff-related policies and ensure compliance.
- Effectively manage the exit process for departing staff.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in human resources, coupled with a commitment to the values and mission of Illawarra Christian Education.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or related field.
- Experience in recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
As a member of our team, you will need to demonstrate an evangelical Christian faith (along with active commitment to a church community) and actively participate in the spiritual life of the school community.
Salary & Benefits
Salary and benefits are competitive and in accordance with the NSW Christian Schools General Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2023. Staff of Illawarra Christian Education are eligible for salary packaging, free annual flu vaccinations, and are supported by an Employee Assistance Program in partnership with Anglicare.
